Fix My Skin (Please)

GENERIC-TEMPLATEDesperate times call for desperate measures.

I feel like this is the era of skincare for me. I have always been one to spend no more than the bare minimum on skincare, I am now on the quest to find the best potions and lotions for my temperamental skin type.

Goodness Gracious Me

Untitled-1

Glow Baby Glow.

Contrary to how it may appear, finding that perfect balance of ‘glow’ when it comes to skin is not the most easy. Treading the thin line of shiny (yes, that dreaded word that has had us stuffing our bags with blotting papers), that fresh faced glow is made even more difficult for those cursed with combination to oily skins. One word; t-zone.

Never the less here is a combination of products all from Hourglass which we have been testing out to achieve that perfect finish, and have subsequently fallen in love with.

a. Hourglass “Nº 28 Primer Serum”

b. Hourglass “Veil Fluid MakeUp No 2”

c. Hourglass “Ambient Lighting Powder in Radient Light”

Good Things Come In Three’s

GENERIC-TEMPLATEIf anything, we would classify ourselves as makeup junkies rather than skincare. Having said that here are a couple of skincare (well almost) products which cost an arm and a leg, but as just as rewarding.

a. Sunday Riley “Good Genes”

b. Perricone MD “No Foundation Foundation”

Scent Repellers

We’ve come to understand that the concept of Man Repelling comes in many forms. On the one hand, the ideal Man Repelling femme would be rocking a goth ninja esque look akin with ironically worn sport brand’s. Yet, on the other hand, they could have swapped their caramel and oh so sweet scented fragrances for something more… unisex?

GENERIC-TEMPLATE

Exhibit A is Dyptique‘s “Philosykos”, who we would recommend for she [or he] who wishes to smell like the subtle scent of fresh figs. Or rather, an actual fig tree. This eau de toilette is super fresh and alluring in its own right. But of course, figs aren’t the most contemporary turn on.

Secondly, we have been loving a handful of the Tom Ford scents. But given their hefty price tag [of around $250] we have resorted to relying on their decently sized sample’s. Ford’s “White Suede” is a sure hit with both of us. Unlike Dyptique’s fig infused scent, White Suede takes the concept of unisex fragrances to more of a deep cologne realm. Mention must also be made to Tom Ford’s “Tobacco Vanille”, with its spicy tobacco meets warm vanilla notes that remind of nothing less than his film A Single Man.

Therefore, we live in fear of meeting a guy who is slathered in same fragrance as us on a night out.

Because that would be a bad thing right?

Luxury Beauty

GENERIC-TEMPLATE

It’s the soft click of the lid, the reflective golden metal, the poised typography. Packaging can be just do damn alluring.

Tom Ford‘s “Black Orchid Eau De Parfum” is one of a kind, oozing a sensual edge that only Ford could muster. Then there is the world of Diptyque, who we kid you not we would buy without even taking a whiff of the product (yes it has crossed out minds).

We’re talking about the kind of products that you would never buy for yourself, but would eagerly hint to your loved ones.

…but nothing says luxury quite like a $2,000 Crème

La Mer %22Crème De La Mer%22 $1,900

We don’t know where to start with the cult product that is the La Mer “moisturising cream.” Although god, it has been vouched for by everyone who is anyone. It’s the miracle cream of all miracle creams.

Of course there is a slightly more affordable $250 version of the product, but sometimes we wonder who sits in their marble cladded bathroom slathering their face with a product worth more than a one-way ticket to the other side of the world.

Monthly Beauty Favourites

Natalie’s Beauty PicksMAKEUP

a. Clarins “Beauty Flash Balm”: This product can be used to tackle that often ‘gross’ feeling skin as an instant pick-me-up. It can also be used as face mask (when applied in a thick layer and left on from 10-20 minutes) for a more intense treatment.

b. Lancome “Teint Visionnaire Skin Correcting Makeup Duo”: The gorgeous packaging of this foundation also includes a hidden concealer in its lid; perfect for concealing those blemished and dark spots. The foundation itself is relatively new on the market, and perfect for those who love full coverage as well as a bit of a glow.  It is indeed full coverage although is long wearing and not cakey upon application.

c. Kiehls “Lip Balm #1”: This is my go-to lip balm and I currently have about five laying around my house (each in a different flavour), a lovely product!

d. NARS “Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Roman Holiday”: For those who love matte lipstick, this is a blessing in disguise! Not only is it super-easy to apply, but it goes on soft and velvety, yet appears matte.

e. NARS “Laguna Bronzer”: Along with their “orgasm” blush, this is one of NARS’ cult products, and it is well deserving of its infamous “best bronzer” label.
